Like many people, I struggled early in life to really figure out what it was I should pursue to make something of myself. I bounced around jobs, was in and out of school, tried to pursue a professional soccer career and still lived with my parents. This went on for about two years, until I decided to make one of the best choices in my life, join the U.S. Navy. It was here, over my 6 year enlistment as a Corpsman, I found my true passion for health and nutrition.
For my last duty station, I found myself at a small clinic in Groton, Connecticut. Here, I ran the Health Promotions Department and worked alongside a Registered Dietitian (RD). I helped create weight management classes, diabetes education, health seminars and much more for active duty personnel and their families. Not only did I work on the diet side of wellness, but also the physical side. I became the most junior ranked Corpsman to achieve Command Fitness Leader. This new responsibility gave me experience and insight on how to plan physical fitness programs and nutrition education for over 200 people. Planning workouts and diets for this many people allowed me to grow as a leader and gain knowledge to be successful in the civilian world.
As my time in the military came to an end, I knew exactly what I wanted to do and how to do it. Upon leaving the military I enrolled in the Dietetics Program at D’Youville College, where I finished both my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree within three years. My experience in the military, along with my knowledge and experience gained at D’Youville College, set me up to share all I have to offer with people across WNY.
After finishing school, I hit the ground running again and found myself doing nutrition consulting work at Georgetown Fitness, helping people find a better understanding of the food they eat on a daily basis. Not only do I educate at Georgetown, but I aid in helping people discover how food can be used as a tool to create an overall healthy lifestyle. Never being satisfied, we at Georgetown Fitness decided we wanted to reach out and help people create a healthier link between work and home, thus we created our new brand: Buffalo Wellness Works.
Now, my goal in life is to reach as many people as possible and show them how a great relationship between food and wellness can be achieved.
